Squares are DONE!
Twenty Five squares...hours and hours...and they're all stitched and ready to go. And I'm ahead of schedule!!! {aaaahhh!} (that never happens, by the way.) My kids wondered why on earth I wanted to make Christmas stuff during Halloween - and it's because I DON'T wanting to be making Christmas stuff during Christmas!
HERE is the tutorial again on how to cut and stitch your squares if you need. I photographed my squares individually for you to get ideas from, also. They're all done by using the same basic stitches I did in my stitch guide. It's all so simple, really, just time consuming. To be perfectly honest, though, Kadie and I were talking about the fact that this has been such a fun project and we're not ready to be done! weird, I know.
...so now onward with pressing my fabric, mounting my squares, and FINISHING THIS BAD BOY!!!
Oh, and below is my cute green polka dot fabric I'm using for my actual tree. I can't wait to show you the finished product!

That is soooooo darling!!!!! Do you need my address, I know exactly where I'm gonna put it.
Tons of patience. You rock!
Very nice and a LOT of work!
GEEEEEEEZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's AWESOME! Man I can't wait to see the finished tree. All of the individual squares are so so cute, Abby. What talent and patience you've got---that's going to be so much fun during December.
Abby, how can you possibly be SO awesome!? Love these little squares! I agree, I don't want to do anything but savor the moments in December. I try to get everything done before Thanksgiving.
Those are sooooo cute. I would never have done all that work. It is fun to see things you make turn out to be so cute. I think that is the best part of creating something.
Super cute! I can't believe your done this early, good for you.
I LOVE them!
Abby,
OMG! I have been DYING to see the finished squares. You did SO much work, with SO many details & finished AHEAD of schedule? Good for you, girl! They all look gorgeous, though I think I'm partial to the Baby Jesus & the penguin. Thank you so much for posting the tutorial. (I am tempted to make one myself, but afraid it's too late to finish in time. Let's see if the weekend brings enough calm to begin.)
I can hardly wait to see them on your tree!
Those squares are so stinkin' cute! I want to do something like it. Thanks!
I'd be happy to take that off your hands. Send it to Chicago!
Wow, that is an heirloom item to pass on to your children someday. Beautiful work!
I've been peeking at your blog since I found it a few months ago. I always think it's weird to comment on people's blogs who I don't know, but I just can't see these cute squares and not tell you how awesome they are. I almost did this project last year. I fell in love with the pbk one and the only thing that kept me from doing it was the embroidery. I am re-inspired to try this again. But seriously, your squares are way, way cuter than the original. So detailed.... you are an artist! Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for sharing ALL of your wonderful ideas.
I am so insanely jealous! I have been wanting to make an advent for over a year, and I hoped to start one in June...failed at that, then I saw yours and I want to see if I can do one similar before Thanksgiving. Here's to goals! Thanks for being so inspiring!
Now that is cute!
That is absolutely adorable!
Super cute! I love them!
So sweet and beautiful! Great work!
The penguin is SO CUTE! I don't celebrate christmas, but I'd love to do that penguin on something anyway!
I think the music notes on the bell are cute too!
I've been wanting to make one of these for a few years now but again this year just don't have enough time. I've really enjoyed admiring yours from afar- it's lovely!
I was so inspired by your squares, that I had to start my own! Yours look wonderful...I actually like them better than the ones on the Pottery Barn calendar.
This is so Gorgeous! Love your little squares. This is going to be precious!
LOVE THEM ABBY!! I'm NOT musical at all, but the bell one with the music note makes me want to start playing Christmas music :)
FABULOUS JOB!!
This is the cutest thing ever! Can't wait to see it finished...Abby, come say hi :D
what lovely work....
Beyond GORGEOUS! You did a fab job -- amazing! :) I know it was hard work but it paid off for sure. What a great keepsake for the kiddos to fight over when they are older -- LOL
adorable! I don't have that much patience!!!
I love the variety. What a fun project!
so cute I need to work on something like this all your hard work has paid off how adorable I love it!!!
So cute! I'm trying to do a copy-cat project but can't get going. My 10 YO DD wants to help with the sewing, which makes for a fun project but lots of work! Thanks for the inspiration!
How adorable, so much work you put in but it will always be such a treasure when you take it out every year. Good for you!
so very cute!!
This is so beyond fabulous! My dad and I made one when I was young and oh how we cherished it. Our basement flooded when I was a teen and ruined it. I wish so much I had it today to pass on my children. I know your kids will love this so much. Well done!! :)
Wow, I am beyond proud of you - I saw the same advent calendar this year and thought, why don;t I just make my own. After seeing the level of effort you've put into this, I'm think I might wait till next year, but nonetheless - you;ve inspired me ONCE AGAIN! Thanks for making the holidays magical for me again :)
Oh my word, these are soooo cool! I absolutely love it! :-)
I just saw your inspiration at my Pottery Barn, and yours is SO much better! All your squares beat the pants off of the pottery barn squares. You should be proud. Great job!
