Books...

There's something to be said about curling up with a good book. I often prefer to "read" with my iPod and LISTEN to a good book since I can work and "read" at the same time, but the two books I've checked out from the library aren't available on audio. (rats!) However, it's been pretty fun curling up at night in my bed with a book! (Imagine that!!! ...reading!...I totally feel all smart now!!!...)

So I need some more good suggestions -- do any of you have a favorite book that made you go, "WOW - that was really good, I'm sad it's over?"

(Oh, and I added my Goodreads page link on the sidebar. I think it's obvious that I need to read more!)

And...by the way...all of your funny video camera moments from below are hilarious! I want to hear some more!!!

There is a great author out there called Jodi Picoult. Her books really make you think. Sometimes they can be a bit strong. Both in language and in content. For example she writes about a Columbine style shooting in the book 19 Minutes. In My sister's Keeper she makes you question if it is ok to have another child in order to save a sibling from luekemia. Hard hitting, really thought provoking, I really enjoyed them because they me think.

Goose Girl is good. So are The Blue Castle and The Quilter's Apprentice.

Here are some I love:

Pope Joan
The Book Thief
My Name is Asher Lev
The Lost Art of Keeping Secrets

All of those are very clean.

The Birth House
The Glass Castle
Water for Elephants

Not as clean but good.

I think every LDS woman should read the Ladies Auxiliary - it's about a community of Orthodox Jews, and it has a great meaning that I think LDS women can really relate to.

You know that I have to comment on this one!!!! Here's a few suggestions from the book nerd . . . Jodi Piccoult is a VERY good author and I've loved the ones that I've read by her . . . very thought provoking indeed. I also just read a couple of good ones that I would recommend . . . The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards (I think!) . . . sad, but oh so good! Also, The Mirror by Marlys Millhiser . . . an older book that is a fun read and gets you to thinking about how times have changed over the years . . . the first half is definitely better than the second half though. Oh, and if you like Harry Potter, you may also enjoy the Eragon series by Christopher Paolini. Don't base these books off the movie . . . worst adaptation to film that I've ever seen! If you ever want more recommendations, just let me know. I don't want to end up writing a novel here!! Or, you know you can always visit my book blog too!! :)

"These is my Words" was my latest fav. And it is very clean - I'm a prude these days. Terrible title but great book. It is set in the 1800's in Arizona so it will bring you back home!

I have not read in years, due to children and lack of time...but, like it was just mentioned...I could not put "Twilight" down, and the rest of the series as well.

Perfume by Patrick Suskind was kind of hypnotic and unputdownable although somewhat disturbing, beautifully written. Also anything by Milan Kundera.
A pretty amazing true story is "A sense of the World" about a blind man who travels the world in the 1800's.

If you are a dog lover, Marley and Me is a good one. I was sad it was over.

I'm sure you have read the twilight series. I am in the midst of book 3 and loving it!

I would suggest:

These Is My Words

The Secret Life of Bees (This one will be a movie sometime this fall/winter, so it might be fun to read before the movie comes out. Plus, it is pretty short.

We are reading Angle of Repose for our book club this coming month. I have not idea about it, but I have heard it is good.

I ALWAYS love Cold Comfort Farm. So funny.

I Capture the Castle is also good. Romantic and fun to read.

There you go...good luck!

Oh, there is also a fellow LDS Blogger who has a romance novel coming out this fall. You can see it on her blog at:

http://heidiashworth.blogspot.com

It is called, Ms. Delecourt Speaks Her Mind. It is supposed to be a bit Jane Austen-esk. Anyway, it looks fun, interesting and a good way to support a fellow LDS writer.

AWESOME! I've already reserved most of these book ideas from the library. I guess the one I'm most excited about is "These Is My Words." I actually reserved it before I made this post - and now that so many of you liked this book, I'm so giddy that I'm convulsing!

Hi Abby! I am a huge reader too! Some of my favs. I have posted on my blog. I love Five People you meet in Heaven. I just read "Sundays at Tiffany's" by Jame Patterson. I am starting to read "These is my words".I got out the sequel to it, but everyone says I need to read the first. Alot of people have recommended them. I also love any of the Janet Evanowich Number series books. A little fluffy, but funny! Another book I love is Thirteen Moons by Charles Fraizer the same author who wrote Cold Mountain. I try to read a classic each time I go to the library.

I wandered onto this site while blog-hopping and had to share a couple of my favorite books. (Although, a lot of them are on here already.) If you read Goose Girl, then you have to keep going and read Enna Burning. It's my favorite of the 3 that are out in that series. I also loved:

Austenland
Princess Academy
The Uglies series
Sunday at Tiffany's (although it does drop a bad word a few times)

I must add Enna Burning wich is a follow-up story to The Goose Girl, Jane Eyre by Bronte, Pride and Predjudice (Hello!), Persuasion also by Jane Austin, and I recently read The Other Boelyn Girl. It has a bit of graphic wording in a coule of spots. It gives a glimpse into what court was like when Henry the 8th was king.
