Comment Moderation

WHAT THE???!!! How do you get rid of those creepy commenters who are hired by some company to solicit their horrible websites??!! Every day I get some random comments, usually in an Asian text, with a vague message and hundreds of links to X-rated sites and I have to go in and manually delete them! I'm so sick of it that I'm now having to moderate every comment and I frankly don't have time for that. Does anyone know how to end this madness?!

And if you're out there, SHAME ON YOU! I'm tired of you - stop coming here! I will not post your comments so you're wasting your time with this chicky.

  1. When I've had this problem in the past, it is usually on an older blog post (not a current one). When it happens, I close the comments on that post so there cannot be anymore new comments on that post. This helped and is how I ended those types of comments. It's like they know which post gets lots of Google searches or high traffic (really weird) Plus, I had to start using word verification.

I haven't had it for a long time. I kept deleting the comment - but when I closed the comment on that post they quit harassing me. I don't understand the thrill of doing that when you can't even understand it... bunch of jerks!

    Good Luck!

  2. Isn't it the creepiest! I get those at random times...I just delete and block...I don't get the point of doing it at all!

  3. I posted about this same thing and thought I must be the only person dealing with it! BUT all I did was to no longer allow anonymous comments and it all went away! I see you did the same so hopefully that will help you as well.

The first time it happened I copied and pasted it to a chinese english dictionary. I was truly shocked to see what it meant!

  4. I get a few of those, but they are pretty much only on old posts, so I just turn off the comments after a couple of weeks, and I started using Typepad Connect for my comments. I haven't gotten any spam on my posts that have the Typepad Connect comments enabled. Good luck!

  6. Does blogspot have a plugin for spam? I use wordpress and it has a plugin to filter out spam. Works 99.9% of the time.

    Good luck!

  7. I stopped getting them when I checked the no-anonymous-posters box in my settings. Hope that helps!

  8. I've been bombarded with some crazy comments lately too. I've found that they only seem to target my older posts, so I went and turned comment moderation on for any post older than 15 days. That way I get a little notification that I have a comment and I can delete it without having to go back and read through all of my older posts. It has worked out so well.

  9. Even with word verification you get those?!? If so, that's crazy! I have word verification on mine and never get any bad comments! (although it's not a big blog, that could make a difference)

  10. Sorry about that, Abby. That stinks!

  12. I was having that issue too, but it seemed to be resolved after enabling the word verification on my comments... yikes. Good luck!

  13. I have the same creepy people leaving comments on my blog every single day and the only thing that works for me is just moderating my comments. It stinks!

  14. I have had the same thing happen to me!! Alway in Asian Text. Always disgustingly naughty. What's up with that?

I also get Viagra span. Go figure.

Let me know if you find out how to get rid of it.

  15. AMEN!
    AMEN!
    and AMEN!

I always click on their profile, go to their "blog" and report it to BLOGGER. I have no idea if that helps, but it's the only way I know to fight back!

  16. I have my blog set so that I have to moderate comments on any post that is older than 7 days. (You can choose the date).

Those are typically the posts I get spam on.

Then I can go in, hit select all, and then delete!

I wish Google allowed us to block comments from an IP address. Word Press does, but I still get a million times more spam on my word press blog than I ever to on Blogger.

  17. Thanks for the info, everyone! I'm glad I'm not the only one annoyed by this. Unfortunately, the comments I'm getting daily are all on any new posts, so the option to moderate only the older ones won't work for me. So until we figure out a way to permanently disable unwanted commenters, I'm going to have to moderate and it's SUCH a pain!!!

  18. Well looks like you have started it already use word verification and that gets rid of the spiders that do this automatic but it leaves the real people. Which then have to be moderated by hand yep I have had to do this for 4 years now. Annoying but at least I know my blog stays clean and wholesome that way

  19. Using "word verification" under the comment setting on the blogger admin page helped me immensely. I am sorry you are dealing with such dregs! :(

  20. I found a way.. most of the time it works.. but it takes time... when i get an email that I 'did not want'.. I went down to the bottom of the message and 'unsubscribed'.. it takes time at first but then the e's slowly stop coming.. it gets your name off a list of sorts.. but after a few months of doing this.. most have stopped...
    Good luck!

  21. You can require commenters to be registered blogger users, but I know that doesn't help a whole lot. Maybe Blogger's help site can shed some light on the topic?

    Best of luck!

  22. Thanks, everyone! Sadly, I already have every available resource working for me and the only thing left to do is moderate every comment. Stinks, but that's the only way around this problem that I can find so far. Oh well!! I'll do that if it means keeping those worms out of my blog!

  23. I have word verification which helps. I've done the comment moderation thing too...then take it off a few weeks later. They seem to come in spurts......so weird

  24. Yes, I have those creeps, too. Like Sondra said, they usually comment on really old posts, guess they think I won't see the comments. Wordpress actually flags those types of posts for me so I can moderate them before my readers see them.

Stop by my blog when you can, I've recently done a complete re-design on it and have an awesome give away going on right now. www.crazyforthecountry.com

    Have a great weekend!

  26. I had to disallow anonymous comments forever ago for the same reason. I still get one every other month but it cut waaaay back what it was before.
